PREFERENTIAL SITE SATURATION FOR NUCLEATION AND GROWTH OF α-PHASE AT EARLY STAGE OF AUSTENITE DECOMPOSITION IN LOW CARBON STEEL BEARING BORON
LIU Guoquan;LI Wenqing University of Science and Technology Beijing; HU Yongyi Tsinghua University; Beijing
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 1-7.
    Abstract   PDF (632KB) ( 516 )
The microstructural evolution path at early stages of austenite decom-position at 620℃ in low carbon steels bearing boron has been investigated bymeans of stereological metbods and the concept of "extended structure". The resultsshow that the grain boundaries of austenite are still the preferential sites for nuc-leation and growth of α-phase in boron steels, with the edges and corners beingmore preferential than the surfaces. The site saturation at edges and corners alwaysoccurs earlier than that at surfaces. It has been also shown that the amount of ef-fective boron in steel has marked influence on the path to achieve the site satura-tion, and delays the surface site saturation.

INTERFACE MORPHOLOGY TRANSITIONS DURING DIRECTIONAL SOLIDIFICATION IN A TRANSPARENT MODEL ALLOY
HUANG Weidong;ZHOU Yaohe National Solidification Processing Laboratory; Northwestern Polytechnical University; Xi'an
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 8-13.
    Abstract   PDF (872KB) ( 628 )
Directional solidification experiments have been carried out on thestudies of transitions either from planar to cellular interface or from cellular todendritic one in a transparent model alloy, succinonitrile-1.1% ethanol, with theemphasis on the time-dependent development of interface morphology. The resultsshow that paying no enough attention to the time-dependent development of inter-face morphology will lead to evident overestimate of the solidification velocities atwhich the transitions of the planar-cellular and cellular-dendritic occur. A methodof finding the critical condition of interface instability by the asymptotic line ofV vs t_c curve is given from the experimental results. The effect of temperaturegradient on the cellular-dendritic transition rate has been determined.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 14-19.
    Abstract   PDF (1491KB) ( 713 )
The effect of solidification interface morphologies on microstructureand solute segregation behaviour of hot corrosion-resistant single crystal Ni-basesuperalloy has been studied. When the liquid/solid interface morphology transformsfrom cellular to dendritic, the primary arm spacing and the solute segregation in-crease drastically, yet decrease remarkably with the increase of solidification rate inthe range of dendrite solidified. The farther the primary arm spacing is, the moreserious the segregation of solute may be. In the structure of coarse dendrite of whichthe primary arm spacing reaches a maximum, a new high Cr eutectic structure withlow melting point is found in front of γ/γ′ eutectic.

YAO Kefu University of Science and Technology Beijing; TANG Naiyong; CHEN Nanping Tsinghua University; Beijing
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 20-26.
    Abstract   PDF (1413KB) ( 805 )

The crack propagation in austenite phase of the ferrite-austenite duplexstainless steel, observed in situ under TEM, was found as zigzag path frequently. The main crack and the microcrack, nucleated in the austenite grain ahead of themain crack, caused an interaction. The choice of the secondary slip system at micro-crack tip and the propagating path of microcrack are controlled by the microcracktip stress field and the stress field of the main crack.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 27-32.
    Abstract   PDF (1610KB) ( 557 )
Studies were made of the influence of B distribution in bcc lattice in-termetallic compound Fe_3(Si, Al) on the long range order and the improvement onits brittleness. A new mechanism concerning weakening of grain interiors is put for-ward. Based on this mechanism, the brittleness improvement of the bcc intermetallicswith B addition could be well explained.

ZHANG Dongbin;WU Chengjian;YANG Rang University of Sciencs and Technology Beijing
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 33-36.
    Abstract   PDF (783KB) ( 681 )
The equilibrium grain boundary segregation of P in Fe-P and Fe-P-Cealloys, containing 0.032--0.22 wt-% P, was studied by XPS, AES and series impacttest. The chemical state of P segregated at grain boundaries is found to be dependenton its amount of segregation. When the amount is less, it is of solid solution stateand the Ce has slight influence, When the amount is more, its existing statechanges and the effect of Ce becomes quite notable.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 37-42.
    Abstract   PDF (2672KB) ( 768 )
The bonding layer of plasma spray welding of Co-Cr alloy on 0.45%C steel was observed to consist of two layers: the several μm only thin sublayerand the decarburized sublayer. The former is composed of amorphous and micro-cpetalline phases together with small amount and uneven distributed complex Cr-Fealloy carbides. Its hardness is greater than HV 500 under 200g load. The later isformed by diffusion of C from subsurface of the substrate to the liquid matal pool. The characteristic welded layer consists also of two sublayers of thick columnarcasting dendrites and fine grains.

    ZHANG Shengliang;ZHAI Hongru Nanjing University
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 48-51.
    Abstract   PDF (381KB) ( 489 )
The Fe(1-x)Pd_x alloys, x=0--0.25, of non-equilibrium single bcc phasewere prepared by dc high speed sputtering. With increasing χ, the lattice constantincreases and the magnetization monotonically decreases. The alloys maintain itsnon-equilibrium bcc phase after annealed at 570 K for 2h, and start in phase sepa-ration when annealing at 670 K for 2h. The lattice constant and magnetization in-crease or decrease with elevating annealing temperature below or over 470 K, re-spectively.

    THERMO-MECHANICAL TREATMENT OF 2O91 Al-Li ALLOY
YIN Zhimin;CHEN Xiaoqun;ZHANG Siqi;ZHANG Weibin Central South University of Technology; Changsha
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 52-58.
    Abstract   PDF (2107KB) ( 828 )
The effect of cold rolling prior to aging and two-step aging treatmenton the microstructure and mechanical properties of 2091 Al-Li alloy has been inves-tigated. The superior strength-ductility of the alloy may be matched by the treat-ment of 8% prior cold rolling and subsequently 170℃, 6h+190℃, 4 h double agingafter solid solutioning. The principal reasons for improving the strength-ducti-lity of the alloy are the suitable particle size of σ′ (Al_3Li), the dispersal precipita-tion of second strengthening phase S′ (Al_2CuMg) along dislocation substructures in-troduced by cold rolling, the decrease of equilibrium phase precipitated and thenarrowing σ′ precipitate free zone at grain boundary.

FATIGUE-CREEP INTERACTION AND FRACTURE MODEL OF Cr-Mo-V HEAT RESISTANT STEEL IN STEAM PIPE LINE
CHEN Guoliang;YANG Wangyue University of Science and Technology Beijing; SHU Guogang Xi'an Thermal Engineering Research Institute
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 59-65.
    Abstract   PDF (1458KB) ( 677 )
The fracture map was constructed on the basis of the combination ofmacro-mechanical properties and micro-fracture model. The mechanical behaviourunder fatigue-creep interaction (FC) of 12Cr1MoV steel and all the information, in-cluding fracture life, strain rate and main factors controlling fracture model (FF,FCF, CFF,FCC, CFC, CC), may be described on the map. The 12Cr1MoV steel has weakresistance at 588℃, which is in the ratio of 1 to fatigue resistance. An FC regionoccurs widely on the map of the steel, saying, the FCC (fatigue crack nucleation, creep propagation and fracture) fracture model may be relatively easily appeared. After the steel was in the service for steam pipe at 540℃ for 2×10~5 h, the FCproperties are remarkably reduced and the fracture model changes too.

INDUCED TRANSFORMATION AND COLD WORKED HARDENING IN THREE STEELS DURING CONTACT FATIGUE
ZHANG Tongjun;HU Zhenhua;SHEN Guanxue;CUI Kun Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Wuhan
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 66-70.
    Abstract   PDF (775KB) ( 584 )
Investigations were made by TEM, back scattering Mossbauer spectra, etc. to study the contact fatigue properties, to observe the microstructures beforeand after contact fatigueing and to measure the microhardness distribution beneaththe contact surface of the three leading screw steels. The martensitic transformationof retained austenite and the cold worked hardening are induced by contact stress. The effect of induced transformation and cold. worked hardening on the contactfatigue properties has been discussed. It is believed that the contact fatigue proper-ties of the steels may be improved by means of increasing the austenite content, yettheir hardness does not reduce so much.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 75-78.
    Abstract   PDF (383KB) ( 483 )
The nominal fatigue crack growth resistance of alloy 2090 is superiorto that of alloy 7075, which is due to the high crack closure effect, yet the intrin-sic one of alloy 2090 is inferior to that of alloy 7075. By adding trace ot Ce toalloy 2090, both intrinsic fatigue crack growth resistance and crack closure effectmay be simultaneously improved, consequently, the nominal growth resistance ofthe alloy may be notably bettered.

The fatigue crack growth feature of the offshore steels WFG36Z andA537CL1 under cathodic protection in sea water environment has been investigated. The deposits of Ca and Mg compounds were found to retard the rate of crack growthwhich will be no longer increasing monotonously against △K, but form V-shaped curve with a minumum crack growth rate at certain value of △K. Moreover, the optimum protection potential range may be changed by the action of deposits. The best range for the steels WFG36Z and A537CL1 in sea water environment is-800—-900 and -1100—-1500 mV respectively, and the harmful range seems to bewithin -950—-1000mV.

STRESS CORROSION CRACKING OF 304 STAINLESS STEEL IN HIGH TEMPERATURE WATER
YANG Wu;ZHANG Meijie;ZHAO Guozhen Shanghai Research Institute of Materials; J. CONGLETON University of Newcastle upon Tyne; England
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 124-128.
    Abstract   PDF (481KB) ( 643 )
The correlation of the surface films with the effects of temperature,Cl~- concentration and dissolved oxygen content on the SCC susceptibility of type304 stainless steel in high temperature water was studied with the aid of U-bendSCC testing and electrochemical measurement as well as AES analysis. With increas-ing temperature, the decreased susceptibility to SCC in air-saturated water contain-ing 100 ppm Cl~- was related to the increase in Cr-enrichment degree in the surfacefilm and to the thickening of the Cr-enriched oxide layer. The increase in SCC sus-ceptibility with increasing Cl~- was attributed to the reduction of Cr content inthe oxide film and to the decrease in thickness of the Cr-enriched layer. Lower SCCsusceptibility observed at both high and very low dissolved oxygen levels could notsimply be related to the change in composition and thickness of oxide films andmight be explained by the electrochemical behaviour of Cr and Fe. The role of oxi-de films in initiation and propagation of SCC is discussed.

WANC Zheng;ZHANG Yongsheng Zhengzhou Institute of Technology
    Acta Metall Sin, 1991, 27 (2): 129-134.
    Abstract   PDF (1275KB) ( 575 )
By means of constant load tensile test, X-ray analysis, electrochemicalmeasurement and fractography, the influence of Ni-P electroless plating on the stresscorrosion cracking (SCC) of the cold-drawn and solid solutioned 304 steel immersedin boiling 42%MgCl_2 solution at 143℃ has been investigated. The Ni-P electrolessplating may increase the resistance to SCC of cold-drawn 304 steel remarkably, yetof solid solutioned one no more. The crystallization annealing of plating is unfa-vourable for the increase of resistance to SCC of the steel, while water quenchingfrom 1050℃ may further decrease the susceptibility to SCC. The mechanism ofprotection of Ni-P electroless plating on SCC of 304 steel was discussed.
