Abstract The bonding layer of plasma spray welding of Co-Cr alloy on 0.45%C steel was observed to consist of two layers: the several μm only thin sublayerand the decarburized sublayer. The former is composed of amorphous and micro-cpetalline phases together with small amount and uneven distributed complex Cr-Fealloy carbides. Its hardness is greater than HV 500 under 200g load. The later isformed by diffusion of C from subsurface of the substrate to the liquid matal pool. The characteristic welded layer consists also of two sublayers of thick columnarcasting dendrites and fine grains.
