Abstract The rapidly quenched Au-17.9at. -%Si ribbon has become twisted, brittle,disappeared from eutectic point and started to melt up to 1341 K after prolongedcrystallization for 3 years under atmospheric environment. This seems to be due to theoxidation of Si in the eutectic of Au-Si into SiO_2.
