Abstract The increase of thickness of carbide layer during carbide diffusioncoating is proportional to the root of carbon activity in various steels. Thus it wasdemonstrated that the controlling factor of the dynamics of carbide layer growthis carbon activity in steel matrix, but not carbon concentration.
