Abstract Crystallization behaviour of rapidly solidified Fe C-Si-Mo alloy ribbon, made byasingle roller method, together with its changes in phase and hardness has been studied by Xray difftaction and SEM. Results show that the alloy attributes its very high Vickers hardness to numerous fine carbides formed during crystallization.
