Abstract Influence of tensile stress on the composition of surface oxides on the alloysNi-23Al-0.5Zr-0.1B and Ni-17Al-8Cr-0.5Zr-0.1B(at.-%) was studied. NiO content inthe oxide scale may increase obviously under tensile stress. Thermodynamic analyses showsthat, during oxidation, the volume expansion of Ni and Al are different, and the tensile stressmay influence the enrichment of NiO in oxide scales so as to reduce the elastic deformationenergy.
