Abstract  Phase diagram of YCl3-SrCl2 binary system has been measured by means of DTA method, and a new phase in this system was observed by X-ray diffraction. The phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of the YCl3-AECl2(AE=Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) systems have been assessed and optimized by using CALPHAD technique. The optimized phase diagrams are consistent with thermodynamical data.
