Abstract The theoretical model to calculating critical hydrogen concentration wasreviewed using Devanathen's hydrogen permeation method. The distribution of hydro-gen coneentration along the direction of hydrogen permeation and the critical hydro-gen concentration during hydrogen--induced crack growing, mainly along MnS inclu-sion interfaces, in the hardened and tempered steel 20 have been determined. The al-lied problems were also discussed briefly.
