Abstract  The fractal structures formed in rapidly quenched Al_(86)Mn_(14) alloy have been observed by SEM. Their fractal dimensions are from 1.46 to 1.97. The principal phase is icosahedral quasicrystalline one, examined by TEM and X-ray diffractometer,in addition to a small amount of Al phase. It is believed that these fractal structures are formed by many aggregate particles during the rapid-quenching process.
