EFFECT OF Zr ON PHASE TRANSFORMATION IN Cu-Zn-Al SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY. Acta Metall Sin, 1989, 25(5): 19-24.
Abstract An investigation was made of the influence of Zr addition on the hightemperature phase transformation, the martensitic forward-and-back transformationand the shape memory effect of a Cu-Zn-Al base alloy by means of the differen-tial scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction and TEM. An addition of 0.35wt-% Zr may effectively inhibit the precipitation of α and γ phases and facilitatethe order transformation β_2→DO_3→18RM. It was observed that the M_s—M_f and A_s—A_f temperature ranges of the alloy are rather narrow, its activation energy ofmartensitic transformation is minimum and its interface between two martensitevariants is more mobile, thus, its shape memory effect is the optimum.
