Abstract X-ray diffraction Fourier profile analysis has been performed for polycrystallineα-brass plate with 31.55 wt-% Zn after a series of uniaxial tensile tests with differentstrain rates.Dislocation density ρ and configuration parameter M may be presented as a function of appliedstress σ_a. A mechanism of alternative long-range and short-range strain hardening has been pro-posed.
