Abstract A calculation method for the isothermal nucleation incubation timeof pre-eutectoid ferrite from deformed austenite has been developed by introducingFeder's incubation time expression into the decomposition of dsformed austenite.The effects of austenite deformation stored enerey and austenite grain boundary en-ergy change on the incubation time have been theoretically calculated. The calcula-ted result seems to be consistent with a rule of experimental data that the austenitedeformation stored energy and the change of austenite grain boundary energy arethe nature of austenite deformation affecting upon the ferrite nucleation.
