The activity of CaO in the CaO-B2O3 slag containing volatile component B2O3 has been measured in a partially sealed graphite container in equilibrium between the slag and melt, and the activity of B2O3 has been calculated by integrating Gibbs-Duhem equation. The experimental results are in good agreement with the previous data derived from the phase diagram and free energies of formation.

The electrochemical impedance combined with physical analysis techniques was employed to study the effect of sputtered CoCrAlY coating on hot corrosion of Ni3Al and Ni3Al-Fe intermetallics. It is shown that Ni3Al and Ni3Al-Fe suffer severe hot corrosion, and their Nyquist diagrams are composed of a semicircle at high frequency portion and a line at low frequency portion, which means the diffusion-controlled reaction.The Nyquist plots of sputtered CoCrAlY coating are composed of two capacitive loops, which means the pitting corrosion. Equivalent circuits to interprete the features of the impedance are proposed, and the parameters in the equivalent circuits are also calculated.

Parameters of gas evaporation method to prepare the nano-particles of amorphous Ni-Ti alloy have been investigated. The particles obtained were characterised by TEM, HREM, XRD and EDAX. It seems to form easily the amorphous nano-particles under some lower pressure of the inert gas and higher evaporating temperature within a composition range near Ni40Ti60 eutectic.

The γ-irradiation-hydrothermal treatment method has been successfully used to prepare pure nanocrystalline powders of Ag(8 nm),Cu (16 nm) and Pd (10 nm). Influences of experimental conditions on Ag particle size are discussed. The complexation of cupric ion with EDTA is favourable for the preparation of nanocrystalline Cu powder. By controlling the conditions of the experiments, different shapes of Cu particles can be obtained. The process of the formation of metal particles in the solution during γ-irradiation is also discussed.

Thermal expansion curves and magnetic properties for the nanocrystalline Fe-Zr-B alloys prepared by annealing amorphous alloys at various temperatures were measured. Preliminary results show that the formation of nanocrystallites gives a drastic increase of the thermal expansion coefficient below Curie temperature TC and the saturation magnetic moment at 77 K, while the expansion coefficient above the TC remains almost unchanged as annealing temperature increase. Invar effect has been proposed to explain the observed results.

The oxidation of Co film on Si substrate during heat treatment was studied by TEM and XRD. The oxidized product of the film, annealed below 550℃, was found to be CoO, and to change into a silicide after further heating under vacuum at 900℃. The oxidation of the film has an important effect on the Co/Si interface reaction.

The composition and structure of the Fe-N films were investigated by RBS and XRD.The results of XRD shown that the films consist of γ'-Fe4N, ε-Fe2-3N and ζ-Fe2N phases or mixture of these phases under different deposition parameters. A phase region diagram in dependence on deposition temperature and N / Fe atomic arrival ratio was proposed.

Based on the superelement model, the method to calculate Ae3 of hot-deformed Fe-ΣXi-C(Xi=Mn, Si, Mo, Al, Cu, Ni, Co, Cr etc) multicomponent alloy steels has been developed, and the influences of hot-deformation of γ-phase on Ae3 were analzed. The calculated Ae3 for nondeformed alloy steels are in good agreements with measured ones given by the previous works.

The high temperature compressive deformation stress-strain curve was measured for a SiCW/ Al-Ni composite, and the effect of strain-softening of the composite during high temperature deformation was discussed. The rotation of logedutinal axis of the SiC whiskers was studied by SEM observation, and the orientation distribution function of SiC whiskers and the relationship between the function and compressive flow stress was also studied. The results indicated that the strain softening effect is mainly induced by the re-distribution of the whiskers
