Abstract  From the thermodynamical analysis, the criterion of optimization inheating process of materials with minimum energy consumption, so called optimalheating process criterion, has been established. Based upon the criterion togetherwith the linear quadratic control theory, a new general method for optimizationin heating process was developed. This method is believed to be quite available tosolve the heat supply problems not only in distribution along furnace length butalso in time-variation.
