Abstract The plastic deformation and effect of hydrogrn on deformation of electroless Ni-P amorphous coatings were studied through indentation test. The results showed that circular shear bands formed around the indent and the plastic zone size increased linearly with the square root of the applied load, hydrogen could enhance localized plastic deformation, deduced the yield strength.
