Abstract A continuum model and numerical method were established for des-cription of heat, mass and momentum transfers as well as macrosegregation forma-tions in metallic alloy ingots. Numerical simulation of temperature, composition andliquid flow fields during solidification were made on an Al-4.5%Cu ingot. Themodel and numerical method were verified through two experiments.
