Abstract The formation of metal-pipe winding with small bending radius under induction heating is revealed to conform to the mechanism of large plastic deformation. The compressed-winding model for small-radius pipe-bends was proposed and calculated using numerical analysing methods. The results may to be the theoretical basis for designing bending equipments and producing small-radius pipe-bends.
