Abstract  The levitative and lateral forces of A.C. electromagnetic field on metal in horizontal electromagnetic continuous casting have been investigated experimentally. It is found that the levitative force increases significantly with the increase in electric current intensity and width of the screen. and reduces obviously with the electric resistance of the screen-metal sheet loop. The lateral force decreases sharply with increasing the distance from the side block .
