Abstract Study was made of the optimum parameters of powder plating method for titanizing of brass, i.e., using a powder mixture containing 45% Ti, 6% NH4Br and the rest Al_2O_3 at 700℃ for 3 h. The corrosion resistance of the most suitable thickness, 20.5 μm, of the titanizing layer seems to be superior to that of bare brass up to 6.4 times, and the hardness reduces about 11%. The microstructures of the titainizing layer, in sequence from surface, are determined by X-ray diffraction analysis as TiZn_2O_4, Ti(Cu, Al)_2, α-CuZn(Ti) and α-CuZn.
