Abstract Process of drying green pellet, the first operation of iron ore pellet calcination, has been investigated. The plot of drying rate vs time was newly found as "two-peak type" and "transition-type". On the basis of the mass balance and energy conversion, a mathematical model for the whole drying process was proposed. It is believed to be in fair agreement with experiment.
