WETTABILITY AND CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITY OF LITHIUM SALT-CONTAINING CARBON ANODE
    QIU Zliuxian;YAO Guangchun;YU Yaxin;ZHANG Zhonglin(Northeastern University; Shenyang)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 439-443.
    Abstract   PDF (300KB) ( 419 )
The lithium salt-containing carbon anode is with better wettability and higher critical current density than the ordinary carbon anode. The occurrence of anode effect in aluminium electrolysis may be decreased by using this type of carbon anode in industrial cells. The mechanism of inhibiting anode effect is explained.

A NEW THERMODYNAMIC CALCULATION FORMULA FOR ACTIVITY OF COMPONENT IN BINARY SYSTEM
    DING Xueyong;WANG Wenzhong(Northeastern University;Shenyang)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 444-447.
    Abstract   PDF (247KB) ( 659 )
A new formula for calculating the activities of the components in any binary system has been proposed based on Miedema's model for calculating the formation heat of binary alloys. The formula can be used in both solid and liquid solutions. This method has been used to calculate the activities in the binary system taken from 75 elements. The results show that this method is feasible and agrees very well with the experimental data for most systems. The ratio of the same sign of either the positive deviation or the negative deviation to solution reaches 87.5 %.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 448-452.
    Abstract   PDF (337KB) ( 459 )
The irradiation behaviour of the oxide dispersion strengthened ferritic steel, made in China, has been investigated by high voltage electron microscope. The results showed that voids formed under electron irradiation at temperature of 670-720 K.The void swelling is less than 0.1% in the specimens irradiated to a dose of 9 dpa at 720 K. At thg same time, electron diffraction rings were obeserved. These rings may results from the formation of micro oxide phases of Y2O3.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 453-458.
    Abstract   PDF (379KB) ( 459 )
In situ TEM observations on the behaviour of dislocation configuration ahead of a loaded crack tip in 310 stainless steel before and after anodic dissolution were carried out in running tap water by specical constant-displacement loading stage. After eliminating the effect of creep at room temperature, the anodic dissolution may induce the dislocation emission, multiplication and motion onto 310 stainless steel in water. The SCC in water at room temperature could occur in the thin foil 310 stainless steel specimen.

SURFACE MODIFICATION OF HARD ACTIVATED HYDROGEN STORAGE MATERIAL VANADIUM
ZHANG Haifeng;LU Mangqi;HU Zhuangqi(State Key Laboratory of RSA; Insti tute of Metal Research; Chinese Acaderny of Sciences; Shenyang); LI Wen(ShenyangInstitute of Technology)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 459-464.
    Abstract   PDF (328KB) ( 431 )
Through controlled mechanical alloying treatment of hard activated hydrogen storage material V and a little LaNi_5, nano-particle surface layer including LaNi_5 alloy was formed, the nano-particles of LaNi_5 provided the "path" for hydrogen from surface to inner of V,this resulted in that modified V can be easily activated at room temperature. Nano -crystalline grains of V was also formed on the surface layer of modified V, it delayed pulverization of modified V. These are favourable to the practical application of V.

MICROSCOPIC OBSERVATION OF SUPERPLASTIC DEFORMATION IN A Ti_3AI ALLOY
SUN Fusheng;MA Jimin;CAO Chunxiao(Institute of Aeronautical Materials; Beijing)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 465-470.
    Abstract   PDF (464KB) ( 484 )
Superior superplasticity up to 382 % is noticeable when alloy Ti-25AI-10Nb-3V-1 Mo(at.-%)is deformed at temperature 900-980℃ and a strain rate of 1×10~(-3) s~(-1). The superplastic model for grain boundary sliding combined with diffusion, dislocation slip, dislocation loop and stacking fault accommodation processes is recognized.Diffusion accommodation process is characteristic of helical dislocation and superjog climb by atomic diffusion mechanism. It is well established that type dislocation with dominate the dislocation accommodation process. The majority of dislocation loops are identified as shearing ones with, and a few of them are determined to be shearing plus diffusion dislocation loops with .

SUBSTRUCTIONAL FEATURE OF SURFACE LASER MELTED ZAlSi 12 ALLOY
LIANG Gongying; LI Chenglao; ZHOU Jiajin(Xi'an Jiaotong University)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 471-475.
    Abstract   PDF (368KB) ( 671 )
Mopohological alteration of Si in eutectic of the surface laser-melted ZAlSi 12 alloy was observed from lath-like into corallite under SEM and TEM. The laser-melted treatment on the ZAlSi 12 alloy surface makes its substruction not only an essential change over dislocation density and mopohology of the laser-melted region, but also an increase of dislocation density in the Al matrix around the heat effecting zone and morphological alteration of dislocation from linear shape into network.Meamwhile, numerous crystallites recrystallize out in the heat effecting zone.In the laser-melted region,α-Al is supersaturated and solutionized with Si atoms. The Si atoms segregated to form the enriched area, and a great many very fine Si crystals precipitated out along <110> direction. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the lattiee parameters of Al may be decreased by the laser-melted treatment.

SELF-PROPAGATING COMBUSTION SYNTHESIS OF NiAl/TiB_2 COMPOSITE
WANG Weimin; FU Zhengyi;YUAN Runzhang(Wuhan University of Technology)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1994, 30 (22): 476-480.
    Abstract   PDF (328KB) ( 483 )
Investigation was carried out on physico-chemical and microstructural changes during self-propagating combustion synthesis of the Ni-Al-Ti-B system. The principal factor influenced on the process was found to be the amount of TiB_2 doped. Microstructural observation revealed that the average size of TiB_2 particles, grown in situ, is dependent on the synthesising temperature. Meanwhile, some TiB_2 fibres occurred on the synthesised products, and their amount as well as growth morphology seemed to be affected by the growing space.
