Abstract  Investigation was carried out on physico-chemical and microstructural changes during self-propagating combustion synthesis of the Ni-Al-Ti-B system. The principal factor influenced on the process was found to be the amount of TiB_2 doped. Microstructural observation revealed that the average size of TiB_2 particles, grown in situ, is dependent on the synthesising temperature. Meanwhile,some TiB_2 fibres occurred on the synthesised products,and their amount as well as growth morphology seemed to be affected by the growing space.
