Abstract  Using a pulse magnetic field heat treatment equipment with low me-dium intensity made by ourself, the tempering process of high speed steel W6Mo5Cr4V2 was inverstigated. It was found that the secondary hardening process andthe transformation of retained austenite for the steel were accelerated by the pulsemagnetic field, and the tempering period could reduce to half of original. It wasshown by the analyses of X-ray and electronmicroscope that the precipitation ofcarbides becomes more homogeneous and diffuse, and the tetragonality of martensiteincreases obviousely, that causes the hardness and red-hardness of the steel increas-ing. It was comfirmed by practice that undergone tempering in pulse magneticfield, the service life of centre bits, small screw taps and punches for nuts increasedby 0.4 to 1.4 times.
