Abstract The application, reviewing, assessment, and funding of the metallic materials (E01) discipline projects of the Department of Engineering and Materials Science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2023 are statistically analyzed in this paper. The management on the progress, mid-term, and final examination of the E01 projects is introduced. The E01 discipline's efforts and actions to implement the science fund reform and to strengthen the talent training are expounded. In addition, the division's next-step work is also looked forward to.
