Abstract Certain typical examples used for the explanation of two problems are described: the allowable limits of starting value variation for the calculation of binary phase diagram by iteration and evaluation of the method of aUotropic equilibrium point for selecting starting value. It is proposed that the method of number direction approximation and the method to judge the real phase boundaries seem to be available for the calculation of binary phase diagrams.
