Abstract The structural alteration from weld metal, weld bond to heat affected zone of aCr18Ni13 austenitic-0.45%C steels weld joint was successively observed in situ under TEM. Theirmorphologies and compositions were also analyzed. A new type of microstructure called pearlite-like was found. The differentiation of characteristics into various zones across the weld joint isfeatured by TEM photos in contrast to the conventional metallographs.
