Abstract Effect of rare earth on the middle-temperature internal friction of commercially pure iron is closely related to heat treatment. The rare earth additive was resulted for acting on alloying. The Snoek-Ke-Koster (briefly called SKK) peak is found to remain still even if the deformed iron after furnace cooling has undergone to age at 600℃ for 1h. The SKK peak temperature does not simply fall as the ascending of aging temperature, but raise up again at 600℃ aging.
