Abstract Ceramic powders of Al2O3 and TiC are coated with a layer of cobalt. Successfully the hot-pressed Al2O3-TiC-Co(ATC) modified ceramic possesses improved mechanical properties. Especially its bending strength and fracture toughness are much higher than that of Al2O3-TiC (AT30) ceramic. The abrasion wear behaviour, mechanisms and wear resistance of ATC and AT30 ceramics are compared and studied. The results show that ATC ceramic possesses driproved wear resistance.
