Abstract Hydrogen probes were constructed with highly dense tubes of SrCe0.95Yb0.05O3-α based proton conductor made by the authors, and with the mixture of Ca/CaH2. By insertion of the probe into liquid Al sample, the hydrogen concentration cell: Mo, Ca/CaH2|H+conductor[H]molten Al, Mo, is available to determine its hydrogen content. EMF of the probe was stable for 1.8 ks and also responded rapidly and accurately to the dehydrogenation by hexachloroethane. XRD and TG analysis of the recovered proton conductor showed that no other phase but perovskite was identified and the excess of Sr improves the stabiltiy of the proton conductor under strong reducing atmosphere.
