Abstract The direct measurement of quenching rate during the amorphous ribbon formation of alloys Fe-Si-B and Ni-P by using an infrared thermal photography technique is described. Experimental results show that the critical quenching rate of amorphous alloy Fe-Si-B or Ni-P formation is 5.0×10~5 or 1.0×10~5℃/s related to the linear wheel speed 17.0 or 12.0 m/s respectively.
