Abstract The coarse grain formation of alloy GH49 after critical deformation is caused by the direct growth of primitive grains, not the "minority of recrystallizing nuclei" or other complex details. The primary driving force of coarse grain formation in the critical deformation region is the energy difference of distortion between both sides of grain boundaries.
