Abstract Mechanisms of heat affected zone (HAZ) liquation and liquation cracking in GH150 alloy were investigated by using varestraint test and hot ductility test in conjunction with the differential thermal analysis (DTA) and optical, scanning electron microsopy. On heating, γ/ (Nb,Ti)C liquation take places in the HAZ above 1250℃. When the temperature reaches 1353- 1375℃, a large amount of liquid particles due to initial melting can be observed within the grains near the fusion boundary. On cooling, γ/(Nb,Ti)C eutectic and γ/ Laves phase eutectic take place at 1273 and 1200℃ respectively. The constitutional liquation of (Nb, Ti)C particles on heating and γ/ Laves phase eutectic reaction on cooling are the main metallurgical factors responsible for the HAZ liquation cracking in GH 150 alloy.
