Abstract  The application of the sub-regular solution model to the thermodynamical analysisof binary equilibrium diagrams has been discussed. A number of criterion-relations ofsub-regularity have been derived for different typical equilibrium cases. Calculationsshow that the solutions formed by the Ⅲ_B, Ⅳ_B, Ⅴ_B elements with Ge can be describedapproximately by the sub-regular solution model; the Ga-As melts in the region close tostoichiometry are nearly regular whereas the In-Sb melts are shown to be sub-regular. The constants of sub-regularity obtained can be used to calculate the thermodynamicquantities of the corresponding solutions.
