Abstract The effect of alloy constituent, annealing heat treatment and reaction temperature on the hydrogen absorption and desorption properties for TiMn_x alloys has been investigated. The results show that the alloys containing 39—44 at. -%Ti exhibite excellent hydrogen desorption properties. They have MgZn_2 type Laves phase structure with a unit cell dimension of a=0.483—0.485nm and c=0.792—0.796nm. The hydrogen absorption capacity is 165 ml/g and the hydrogen desorption amount is 140ml/g for TiMn_(1.49)H system at 30℃.
