Abstract Threshold of short through fatigue crack for an Al-Li 8090 alloy wasevaluated to be lower than that of long crack, and to decrease with the shorteningof the crack length. The correlation among the threshold, crack wake and crack tipshielding of the short fatigue crack was discussed. The critical length and lowesttheoretical threshold of short through fatigue crack were presented.
