Abstract The main deformation mode for [021]-oriented γ-TiAl single crystals in thetemperature range of -196 -1000 ℃ has been identified to be {111}(110] ordinary dislocationslip. At low temperatures, (1/2)(110] ordinary dislocations are mostly parallel to their screworientation or 60° with respect to screw orientation and tend to be arranged in groups. Whilein the anomalous yield temperature range, (1/2)(110] ordinary dislocations are mostly parallelto their screw orientation and are heavily cusped. The number of these cusps increases withincreasing temperature. Above the peak temperature, ordinary dislocations do not exhibit allypreferable orientation and tend to move out of their primary slip plane by climbing.
