Abstract The effect of microstructure on the room temperature fracture behaviour of a precipitation hardened austenitic steel has been investigated. Under the same aging conditions, the dimple or intergranular fracture is shown when the solution temperature is not higher than or above 1100℃ respectively. On this basis, the intracrystalline and intergranular fracture models were discussed separately.
