Abstract The microstrueture and sintering behaviour of the hot pressed SiC influenced by A1_8B_4C_7 phase have been studied by SEM, X-ray diffraction analysis and optical microscopy. The A1_8B_4C_7, forming as liquid phase in the presence of additives B, C and Al at 1800-2100℃, may be coagulated at the grain boundaries among SiC particles. Because of an inferior wettability of the liquid phase A1_8B_4C_7 to SiC grains, the hot pressing may be significant to enhance its densification.
