Abstract Studies were made of the effect of various environments,such as in atmos- phere,steam,matin impregnation and gas sputtering separately,or in a combi- nation of them at both ambient and elevated temperature,on the low cycle fa- tigue(LCF)life of an Fe-base superalloy GH36.On the basis of observation on the fracture behaviour and analysis of the scanning Auger electron spectroscopy on the fracture surface of the alloy,the cause of the LCF life affected by the environment has been discussed.
