Abstract X-ray diffraction, DTA and other methods were used to determine the phase relations between native mischmetal (Mm) and MmNi_5 as well as the phase diagram of LaNi_5-PrNi_5 pseudo-binary system. The hydrogen desorption capacities and hydrogen adsorption plateau pressure of LaNi_5-PrNi_5 (CeNi_5, NdNi_5) system varied with the compositions of specimens and the hydrogen absorption properties of La-rich and Ce-rich MmNi_5 were also studied. The free energy, △Z, the enthalpy, △H, and the entropy, △S, of the hydride of La-rich MmNi_5 were estimated to be 6.14 kJ/mol H_2,-20.92 kJ/mol H_2 and-90.8 J/K.mol H_2 respectively.
