Abstract  The concentration of the α/β interface in the Cu:Cu-Al diffusion coupleswas determined by rapid quenching using“duplex tube technique”which ensuredthe phase in local equilibrium owing to its more rapid cooling rate.It was obser-ved that the conventional quenching seems not a rapid enough treatment to re-tard the decomposition of β-phase.A slower cooling rate results in apparent mo-dification of the morphology of the two-phase interface.The interfacial concen-trations measured are those establishing at lower temperature equilibrium.It isreasonable to believe that the consistently and significantly higher interfacialconcentration determined by Eifert et al.may be caused by the slow cooling ofthe experimental alloys.
