Abstract  The yield strength of both ends of a hot-rolled 10Ti steel roll was found tobe about 10kg/mm~2 higher than its middle. Various factors possibly contributableto such an inhomogeneity in mechanical properties have been considered andsupported by experimental investigation. It is concluded that size and distributionof TiC particles are the main cause of the difference in yield strength betweenthe ends and the middle of the roll.
