Abstract The decreases in lattice strain △a/a in cold-drawn steel wires after annealing between 150℃ and 450℃ have been determined by measuring the broadening of DebyeScherrer lines.The decrease in △a/a is accompanied by an increase in the fatigue strength of smallwire ropes with little effect on their tensile properties.The distribution of △a/a in thewires was also examined.
