PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY OF DEOXIDATION OF STEEL

Abstract  A critical survey is made of the thermodynamic data available for deoxidation of steel.TheFe-O and Fe-C-O systems are considered first,followed by equilibria involving such deoxidationelements as Al,Si,Mn,Cr,V,Ti,B etc..The deoxidation power of the various elements iscompared in a conventional log[% O]-log[% E]diagram for 1600℃.The nature of deoxi-dation products and the interaction between oxygen and alloying elements in liquid iron are alsodiscussed in the light of some new published data.
