Abstract The deformation process and the strain field ahead of crack tip in Nisingle crystal have been studied under SEM, and by grid method as well as compu-ter image processing. The presence of hydrogen extends the localized plastic bandinhomogeneous further and significantly increases the plasticity in high deep strainarea.
