Abstract A recently modified continuum model has been adopted to investigate the solidifying behaviour of cast ingot.Emphasis has been laid on the interaction among the fluid flow,temperature distribution and solute field.The effects of two kinds of driving forces,T/x and w/x,have also been analysed.
