The effects of surface-applied CrzOJ and AlZOS thin oxide films containing vari- ous concentrations of Y20s on the high-temperature oxidation behaviour of an ordinary CrzOB former, FeZSCr, have been studied at lOOOC in 10' Pa oxygen. The thin oxide films with Y20, gave rise to a great decrease in the growth rate of the Cr,OS scale and the effect of mul- ti-component films was stronger than the single YIOS film. The morphology of Cr,O, scales changed apparently. The indirect evidences showed that the growth mechnism of the Cr,03 scale converted from predominantly cation diffusing outwards to predominantly anion diffus- ing inwards. A full reactive element effect(REE1 has been developed by the surface-applied thin oxide films with yttrium.

The negative difference effect (NDE) phenomenon of magnesium has been studied by electrochemical measurement and STM. After observing the morphology charac- teristics on magnesium by STM in nanoscale, the newUPartially Protective Film "mechanism is proposed to explain the NDE phenomena. There were many oxide pieces which did not bulk up on the magnesium surface and the magnesium would be dissolved under the defect of oxide pieces when the anodic potential or current were applied on the electrode. It was shown that the possibility and the degree of NDE were decided by the structure of oxide on the mag- nesium electrode.

The cathodic delamination behaviour of a tar epoxy organic coating on 16Mn and CCSB steel under the simultaneous action of constant amplitude cyclic loading and corro- sive medium has been studied. The variation of coating delamination area with time was ex- amined under different loading conditions at -1600mV(SCE). The effect of steel substrate on the cathodic delamination behaviour of the coating has been also investigated. The evolution of cathodic current under different conditions was measured with delamination time. The re- sults revealed that the coating had a good resistance to cathodic delamination without applied loads, but under cyclic loading condition, this resistance greatly decreased beacuse of the ef- fect of stress and local strain concentration on medium transport and interfacial situation of the coating, the degree of the decrease was enhanced with increasing stress level.

The chemical composition, structure, property of Cr-Fe-C alloy were investi- gated. The alloy was prepared by a newly developed electroplating technique with trivalent chromium being main salt. The experiment results showed that the hardness and erosion- corrosion resistance of these depositions were incresaed notably after heat-treatment by transforming into crystal. In comparison with traditional chromium and chromium alloy de- positions, the Cr-Fe-C alloy deposition may be economically used for the requirement of high resistance wear.

A method for the synthesis of an universal solid inhibitor CMD18 for pickling and its inhibition properties in thirteen kinds of mediums is described. The effect of concer- tration, temperature of acid solution, amount of Fe3+ in acid solution, concentration of in- hibitor and pickling time etc. on inhibition property and the special inhibition property used in high concertration suphuric acid at higher pickling temperatures were also investigated. The inhibition mechanism of inhibitor was studied on basis of electrochemical measurments. It has been shown that the metioned inhibitor is a type of mixed adsorption film inhibitor.

A safe, simple, reliable, practical coupon holding instrument which could e- valuate the corrosion status of oil tube was used. The surface of the corrosive coupons was observed by SEM and the corrosive products were analysed by X-Ray diffraction instrument. Combining the simulated test, it is proved that the corrosion of LN2-3 oil tube belongs to the moderate one.

The first practice about the cathodic protection on under-ground pipeline for an oil store in Hebei province has been described. In this project, We successfully used a new cathodic protection technique in cluding a flexible anode and monoblock insulating joint, to protect the pipeline system, which had been buried for more than 30 years, from external mrrosion.

Based on the primary Dos edition, the corrosion database for non-metallic ma- terials (in Chinese), which used Windows 95 as the operation platform, has been estab- lished. Borland C++5.O programming language was used for database management system and uskr's interface. There are corrosion data for more than 60 non-metallic materials in about 1000 corrosive media, mechanical property data and physical property data. More than 10 ways of inquiry and a series of functions such as database maintenance and printing were contained in this database.

In the paper the analysis results of 29 failed 18-8SS bellows for catalytic crack- ing device were summerized. The analysis was performed by means of various techniques in- cluding chemical analysis, metallography ,SEM, SAM and ESCA. The results showed that near by 80% of the bellow failures resulted from stress corrosion crack (SCC) due to chlo- rine ion; The magnitude of residual stress resulted from improper design and installation, which limiled strongly the lifetime of the bellows service. The protective measures such as annealing for stress-relieving ,surface modification and application of new alloy (FN) have been taken and outstanding economical benefit has been obtained.

A natural gas pipeline ruptured suddenly along the spiral-weld seam under normal operation pressure. Investigation and laboratory examination indicated that the cracking was caused by sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC). The examination results showed that martensite and high residual stress due to welding process by repair increased the susceptibility to SSCC
