EFFECT OF RETAINED AUSTENITE ON CONTACT FATIGUE RESISTANCE OF STEEL 18Cr2Ni4WA
ZHU Dong WANG Fuxing CAI Qigong ZHENG Mingxin CHENG Yinqian (Department of Mechanical Engineering;Tsinghua University.Beijing)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 1-5.
    Abstract   PDF (1055KB) ( 575 )
Experiments were carried out on a rotary contact fatigue testing machine with two roller specimens made of the commercial 18Cr2Ni4WA steel bearing different amounts of retained austenite under various regimes of heat treatment. Results show that the specimen with more retained austenite is superior in con- tact fatigue resistance to that with less one.It is believed to be significant for improving the contact fatigue resistance by the formation of micro-duplex structure during testing because of the existence of the super fine granule in austenite matrix. In addition,thedeformation-induced martensitic transformation and beneficial distribution of the residual stresses may also contribute to the contact fatigue resistance to certain extent.

INFLUENCE OF PROLONGED AGING ON MICROSTPUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF K17G CAST Ni-BASE SUPERALLOY
WANG Sukun ZHANG Bingda HU Zhuangqi (Institute of Metal Research.Academia Sinica.Shenyang)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 6-12.
    Abstract   PDF (1631KB) ( 407 )
The K17G cast Ni-base superalloy is the one of low density, high strength and good ductility.Due to the stability of microstructure and lack of harmful a-phase after prolonged aging at 750—950℃,its mechanical properties are slightly lowered only.Although the properties of samples cut and machined from turbine blades subjected also to prolonged aging were been some reduction, in comparison with those of standard precision-cast specimens, their tensile properties and ruptuce strength were still kept at rather high level.

EFFECT OF RETROGRESSION AND REAGING TREATMENT ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF Al ALLOY LC9
HONG Bande MENG Xianglin (Harbin Institute of Technology)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 13-150.
    Abstract   PDF (2354KB) ( 669 )
The effect of a new heat treatment process, namely, retrogression and reag- ing(RRA),on the mierostructure and properties of A1 alloy LC9 of A1-Zn-Mg-Cu system has been studied. After the alloy of T6 underwent further treatment of 220℃,5 rain retrogression and 120℃,24h reaging, the room temperature tensile properties of the alloy kept no more inferior to that of T6,but such a stress corrosion resistance may be superior to T73 state. The corresponding change in microstrueture of the alloy shows the formation of precipitated phase of two different sizes, both coarse and fine,in the grains, thus, the strength is much improved.Meanwhile, the tip of precipitates along grain boundary becomes obtuse, the alloying elements are depleted in the region near the grain boundary and the stress corrosion resistance is bettered.

A STUDY OF MICROSTRUCTURES OF WC POWDER
LI Jianchun (Central South University of Technology;Changsha)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 19-25.
    Abstract   PDF (2040KB) ( 730 )
X-ray diffraction profiles were obtained from eight process variants of WC powders in both the unmilled and heavily milled condition. From these X-ray profiles, coherent domain size and microstrain were determined,This study indi- cated that the degree of crystalline imperfections in the unmilled WC powder decreased with increasing reaction temperatures,i.e.the reduction and carburization temperatures, with reduction temperature being dominant.Additionally, the morphology of the WC particles was examined using SEM.The particle morphology evaluated by SEM and the degree of crystalline imperfection obtained by X-ray profiles analysis are in good agreement. The fracture characteristics of the as-recei- ved WC powder are closely related to the perfection of the powder.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 26-32.
    Abstract   PDF (2327KB) ( 615 )
Study was made of the microstructure of alloy GH37 subjected continuously to CO_2 laser beam and followed with various heat treatments. The influence of laser radiating local fusion-solidification and subsequent heat treatment on its microhardness over heat-affected zone, rotating bending fatigue at 700℃ as well as tensile and rupture strength at 800℃ has been discussed. For such alloy GH37 after fusion-solodification,a further treatment to readjust the microstructure of the heat-affected zone is essential for properly precipitating the γ'-phase in car- bide along grain boundary, possibly reducing the element segregation in dendrite over fusion zone and eliminating the thermal residual stress, etc.,hence, its high temperature mechanical properties,e.g.,rupture,tensile and fatigue strength, would be done to satisfaction. The suitable regime of heat treatment may be: preheating and laser radiating+1050℃,4h,A.C.+800℃,16h,A.C.

THERMODYNAMICS OF BAINITIC TRANSFORMATION IN Fe-C ALLOYS(LFG MODEL)
XU Zuyao (T.Y.Hsu)MOU Yiwen (Shanghai Jiaotong University)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 33-41.
    Abstract   PDF (665KB) ( 588 )
The calculated results obtained from the refined LFG model is similar to that from KRC,but there exists divergency between them in alloys with higher C contents. It seems that for treating interstitial solid solution,LFG model is more suitable over the KRC.Both the results from the two models show that △G~(γ→α+Fe_3c) is the largest, followed by △G~(γ→α+γ_1) and △G~(α-γ′) is the smallest and △G_N~(γ→α′)is far less than △G_N~(γ→α+γ_1′).At B_s,from LFG,for x_γ=0.001-0.002,△G_N~(γ→α+γ_1)△G_N~(γ→α+γ_1)- -196--237 J.mol~(-1);for x_γ=0.035,the sum of △G~(γ→α′) and △G~(α′→α″+Fe_3)is only—181 J.mol~(-1).The present work verifies again that at least at upper tem- perature range, the formation of bainite with shear mechanism is thermodynam- ically impossible.Calculation of the driving force for nucleaction(growth)gives an evidencs that the leading phase of the eutectoid reaction in hypoeutectoid steels is ferrite while that in hypereutectoid steels is cementite.

THERMODYNAMIC CALCULATION OF M_S AND DRIVING FORCE FOR MARTENSITIC TRANSFORMATION IN Fe-Mn-C ALLOYS
ZHANG Hongbing NI Lemin (Shanghai Technical College of Metallurgy);XU Zuyao (T.Y.Hsu)(Shanghai Jiaotong University)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 42-49.
    Abstract   PDF (631KB) ( 711 )
The M_s temperatures of Fe-Mn-C alloys have been calculated by the appli- cation of LFG model of △G~(γ→α) with Mogutnov's △G_(Fe)~(γ→α),Hsu-A model with Orr-Chipman's △_(Fe)G~(γ→α) and Hsu-B model with Orr-Chipman's △G_(Fe)~(γ→α) and are in good agreement with the experimental values.Through the mathematical treatment, the relationship between Ms and the composition of Fe-Mn-C alloys can be ob- tained as: M_s(K)=817.4-7513.4x_C-4141.9x_(Mn)-32083.5x_cx_(Mn) (LFG model with Mogutnov's △_(Fe)G~(γ→α)); M_s(K)=829.9-7580.5x_C-4166.0x_(Mn)-15727.Sx_cx_(Mn) (Hsu-A model with Orr-Chipman's △G_(Fe)~(γ→α)); M_s(K)=829.2-7276.1x_C-2915.4x_(Mn)-43825.7x_cx_(Mn) (Hsu-B model with Orr-Chipman's △G_(Fe)~(γ→α)) in which the linear correlation coefficient of these relations are larger than 0.992. Both C and Mn depress M_s linearly and the effect of C is almost two-fold stro- nger than that of Mn.Introduction of an interaction term(x_Cx_(Mn)) between alloying elements in the present treatment shows that C and Mn enhance the effect upon M_s of each other. The driving force for transformation increases monotonically with C and Mn content and there is no singularity. The ealculted M_s and the driving force largely depend on the △G~(γ→α) model and △_(Fe)G~(γ→α) values adopted.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 50-56.
    Abstract   PDF (1750KB) ( 620 )
The thickness, diffusion rate, grain size and structure of the Nb_3Sn layer prepared by modified bronze process have been examined by means of metallog- raphy,SEM,X-ray diffraction and EMPA.Both Small amount of Mg,A1 or Y added to the Cu-7at.-%Sn matrix and 1wt-% Zr added to the Nb care may ac- celerate the rate of formation and refine the grain size of the Nb_3Sn layer. The effect of addition of either 0.1—0.5 at.-% Mg to bronze or 1 wt-% Zr to Nb core is most predominante among them:The A1 added up to 1 at.-% may cause the bronze to work hardening and the specimen to premature failure under defor- mation. The structure of Nb_3Sn layer formed is of A15 type as shown by X-ray diffraction.Only trace Cu is found in Nb_3Sn layer nearby bronze, but Mg or A1 is enriched in the bronze matrix near the bronze/Nb_3Sn interface. In Nb_3Sn layer trace Mg or A1 is detected.Zr may diffuse from Nb core into bronze ma- trix in certain amount.

ANOMALOUS THERMAL RESISTIVITY OF Au-Pd-Cr ALLOYS
HE Huachun (Institute of Precious Metals Research;Kuming)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 63-69.
    Abstract   PDF (594KB) ( 604 )
The effect of various regimes of heat treatment on the resistance and ther- moelectromotive force of AuPd_(38.6)Cr_3 and AuPb_(36.6)Cr_8 alloys as well as the rela- tionship between their properties and structure have been investigated. The room temperature resistivity of these alloy specimens after annealing at different tem- peratures increases and maximizes at 450 and 850℃,but decreases with cold wor- king.As the cold worked specimen aged at 400 and 480℃ two peaks were ob- served on the resistivity plot and X-ray relative intensities vs time curve, while two plateaus were found on the thermoelectromotive force curve. All the pheno- mena appear correspondingly on the time axis.It seems that this anomalous behaviour is closely related to the special clusters forming in the super-saturated solid solution.

EFFECT OF SALTS ON CREEP BEHAVIOUR OF Ni-BASE ALLOY GH37
CAO Mingzhou QIN Rongshi ZHAO Jixiang (Institute of Metal Research.Academia Sinica.Shenyang)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 70-75.
    Abstract   PDF (1863KB) ( 549 )
The creep fracture behaviour of Ni-base alloy GH37 sustained under various loads was studied in three salt depositions:Na_2SO_4,10% NaCl+90% Na_2SO_4 or 20% NaCl+80% Na_2SO_4 at 750—850℃.No remarkable attack was observed in either Na_2SO_4 or 10% NaCl+90% Na_2SO_4,but a violent reduction in life of creep rupture and in creep elongation was expected while in 20% NaCl+80% Na_2SO_4 deposited at rate up to 3 mg/cm~2.The deposition of mixed salts 20% NaCl+80% Na_2SO_4 may destroy the protective oxide film on the alloy surface, meanwhile, may also erode evenly both surface and grain boundaries, and a Cr-depleted layer and intergrartular crackings under stress may be resulted. Therefore, the period of second stage creep is much shortened by interaction of the intergranular crack- ing at surface layer together with internal creep, and the alloy fails prematurely.

From experimental or theoretical aspect, three Euler indices of a polyhedral grain are equal statistically to the mean caliper diameter of the same grain, when all the values of the foresaid parameters being normalized respectively by their average in the space filling polycrystal to which the grain belongs. It seems that the above principle is independent of the type of the metal concerned, provide that the structures are configured in a way that is consistent with the underlying assumption in the derivation of the principle.

TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE ON HARDNESS AND EXPANSION OF SINTERED Nd-Fe-B MAGNETS
LUO Yang ZHANG Ning (Central Iron and Steel Research Institute Ministry of Metallurgical Industry;Beijing)
    Acta Metall Sin, 1987, 23 (1): 95-98.
    Abstract   PDF (982KB) ( 546 )
A singular point is indicated at Curie temperature on the curve of expansion measurea either parallel or perpendicular to C-axis of the sintered Nd_(15)Fe_(79)B_6 magnet in the range from room temperature to 700℃.Remarkable difference in shape and slope of the curve on both sides separated bY the singular point is noticed:at temperature over T_c,it expands normally in heating;but below T_c,an abnormal shrinkage, especially in the direction per- pendicular to C-axis,is revealed. This implicates the effect of ferromagnetism upon the thermal expanion. The temperature dependence on hardness of the sintered magnet Nd_(15)Fe_(78) B_7,measured in the range from room temperature to 750℃ is shown as:at T>300>,its hardness decreases very sharply;till 450℃,decreases about 50% and it is reduced to almost one order of magnitude while T>650℃ at which the alloy is softened. The existance of such plastic flow demonstrates the possibility of strain induced anisotropy during hot pre- ssing.

Chemical diffusion of oxygen in calcia-stabilized zirconia(CSZ)with impu- rifles of Al_2O_3,SiO_2,MgO,Fe_2O_3 and TiO_2 was studied by the non-steady state permeation and the desorption techniques at 960—1450℃.The concentration of excess oxygen in CSZ was found to be proportional to the content of iron oxide within experimental error. The chemical diffusion coefficient was found to be inversely proportional to the relative deviation from stoichiometry, and to incr- ease with increasing Po_2.The results were consistent with a trapping mechanism in which the holes are divided into free and trapped ones.Diffusion coefficient is reduced by the trapping factor. The time constant of equilibration processes with a surrounding atmosphere is increased as the concentration of the trapping centers is increased. The CDZ electrolyte free of Fe_2O_3 gives fast response in EMF.
