    Abstract   PDF (411KB) ( 626 )
Mathematical modeling and physical modeling have been conducted to investigate the characteristics of fluid flow and mixing in argon-stirred ladles with six different types of tuyere arrangement. An optimum arrangement of tuyeres considering the various purposes of refining and an empirical correlation for mixing time concerning the number of tuyeres are proposed. The results of mathematical modeling are in good agreement with those of physical modeling.

    Abstract   PDF (312KB) ( 751 )
The effects of two different phase structures of TiNi on its electrochemical properties were studied. By utilizing the transformation hysteresis, both TiNi samples with austenite and martensite structure were prepared and tested at the same temperature. The former has better kinetic properties than the later. In this paper the effect of hydrogen dissolved in the alloy to form solid solution on phase transformation temperature was also investigated with the electric resistance method.

    Abstract   PDF (365KB) ( 494 )
The electrode processes of Tm3+ in molten chlorides were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, open circuit potential-time curve after potentiostatic electrolysis and X-ray diffraction. Tm3+ is reduced to Tm2+ at first and then the metallic Tm is deposited on the W and Mo electrode respectively. The Tm-Ni alloys are formed at first and then the metallic Tm is deposited on Ni electrode. The diffusion coefficient and diffusion activation energy of Tm3+ in molten chlorides were determined. InD=-4.35-58.2x10~3 /RT is obtained.

    Abstract   PDF (295KB) ( 678 )
The amplitude frequency characteristic curve and loss factor of laminated damping steel sheet have been calculated and measured with the sine scanning excited method. The laminated damping steel sheet using phenolic resin-chloroprene rubber for sandwich possesses good vibration damping characteristic; in the temperature range from 20℃ to 150℃. Its loss factor is over 0.05, the maximum value of loss factor over 0.35.

    Acta Metall Sin, 1995, 31 (22): 455-459.
    Abstract   PDF (358KB) ( 527 )
The activation energies of decarburization and hydrogen attack of 15CrMo steel exposed under 18 MPa H2 and at 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500℃ for different time were evaluated. Both activation energies have similar value. This is believed that the hydrogen attack reaction is controlled by the diffusion of C-atom. The hydrogen attack in the welding affected zone is more obvious than that of matrix.

    Abstract   PDF (452KB) ( 651 )
The stability of TiC prepared by in situ reaction in molten Al has been confirmed by using SEM and XRD. With the increase of the content of TiC, the structure become finer, the distribution of TiC in matrix becomes more homogeneous and some mechanical properties are improved. The fracture surface observed by SEM is ductile one.

    Abstract   PDF (265KB) ( 602 )
Based on the transformation kinetics and thermodynamics an algorithm for predicting ferrite grain size after continuously cooling transformation from deformed austenite to ferrite was suggested. Calculated results of computer simulation wtih the algorithm are in so good agreement with the measured ones in the pilot experiments, that the theoretical algorithm is feasible.

    Abstract   PDF (310KB) ( 460 )
A method for synthesizing silicon carbide whiskers by microwave heating is described in this paper. Silicon carbide whiskers with diameter in the range of nanometer have been obtaind by the reduction of SiO2 with C in an atmosphere of nitrogen. Ultrafine SiO2 powder, phenol formaldehyde resin and carbon black are used as starting materials. The structures of the whiskers are determined by means of XRD, TEM. The effects of temperature and carbon type on the production of SiC whiskers are discussed.
